Insurers are increasingly anxious about the possibility of militant attacks or AI-generated fake images jeopardizing the Paris Olympics, leading to event cancellations and significant financial claims.

The postponement of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics due to the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in substantial financial losses for insurers. Since then, increased geopolitical tensions, including wars in Ukraine and Gaza as well as elections in France, have escalated the fear of politically-motivated violence during high-profile global events.

Scheduled from July 26 to August 11, with the Paralympics following from August 28 to September 8, the Paris Olympics face a myriad of security concerns. German insurer Allianz, along with others like Lloyd's of London, will be providing coverage. According to Allianz's Eike Buergel, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and French authorities are taking necessary security measures. The likelihood of Islamist attacks remains the top concern.
