Leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, part of India's triumphant T20 World Cup team, was honored by Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Thursday. Saini presented Chahal with a shawl and an idol, congratulating the spinner on the team's unbeaten success.
Chahal, who was in the 15-player squad, did not play in any match. India advanced to the Super 8 on a challenging New York pitch favoring pacers, prompting changes in the playing XI.
In the West Indies' dual-faced pitches, Kuldeep Yadav replaced Chahal, delivering match-winning performances and taking 10 wickets in five matches with a 6.95 economy rate. India's unbeaten campaign culminated in a victory over South Africa in the final in Barbados, ending their 13-year ICC World Cup drought.
After returning to New Delhi, the World Cup team met Prime Minister Narendra Modi. They then headed to Mumbai for an open bus victory parade from Marine Drive to Wankhede Stadium, drawing thousands of fans.
At Wankhede Stadium, Indian players danced to dhol beats and were met with cheers from enthusiastic fans. During the event, BCCI officials awarded the team Rs 125 crore in prize money.
