Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq have strongly denied allegations of favouritism among Pakistan players and forcing other selectors to comply during the T20 World Cup. Both former Test cricketers were dismissed by the Pakistan Cricket Board on Wednesday. The decision to remove Wahab, who has close ties with PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi, came as a surprise.
Wahab had served as an advisor on sports with extensive powers in the caretaker government of Punjab, led by Naqvi, until the earlier elections. Since then, Wahab has held various roles in the PCB, including chief selector and senior team manager.
After their dismissal, allegations emerged that Wahab, as the senior team manager, ignored misconduct by Shaheen Shah Afridi during the T20 World Cup. The dismissed selectors were also accused of choosing players who were out of form or not fully fit. Wahab countered these claims, asserting that selection decisions were made collectively by the seven-member panel.
