Adam Peaty, Britain's triple Olympic champion, is gearing up for the Paris Games with an open mind about his future in competitive swimming. His mother, Caroline, shared her hope on Monday that Peaty, 29, would consider retiring after the Games to lead a more normal life. Peaty is aiming for a third consecutive 100 meters breaststroke gold, having already made history by defending his Olympic title at the Tokyo Games in 2021.

Peaty joins the ranks of Michael Phelps, the only other swimmer to win gold in the same event over three Games. Although he considers himself an underdog this time, Peaty is at peace and without pressure. The world record holder has redefined his approach after navigating mental health issues and alcohol. Absent from the 2022 world championships due to a fractured foot, Peaty also took a break last year to reset.

"He's happier and more secure than ever," Caroline Peaty told BBC Radio. "Despite the challenges, Adam is in a good place now. He’s less stressed and ready. Whether this will be his last Olympics or not, I hope for him to find normality post-swimming." Adam Peaty acknowledged the toll of his achievements, saying, "Whatever the scoreboard shows, I'll know I gave my best shot. I could have quit 14 months ago but chose to give it another try."
