India Aims for Top-Five Sporting Nation Status by 2047

In a notable announcement, Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya disclosed that India is targeting to be among the world's top-five sporting nations by 2047, a plan formulated during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mandaviya emphasized that sports is a critical element in the government's far-reaching vision to transform India into a global superpower by 2047.
'While the country was under lockdown, we were diligently planning for 2047, with sports being a key component,' Mandaviya mentioned during a panel discussion on India's Paris Olympics preparations.
