India's head coach Gautam Gambhir has expressed his hope that senior batsmen Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will be available for most ODIs and Tests following their retirement from T20 Internationals. Gambhir emphasized the significance of fitness for the 2027 50-over World Cup.

Speaking on workload management, Gambhir highlighted ace fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah's importance and the necessity of handling him with care due to injury concerns. He believes batters should play consistently if in form, whereas bowlers, particularly fast bowlers like Bumrah, need to be managed strategically.

Gambhir also expects Rohit and Kohli to maintain their fitness levels with an eye on the upcoming Champions Trophy and a major tour in Australia. He mentioned the possibility of different teams for different formats, underscoring the need for consistency in 50-over and Test cricket. Ensuring a happy and secure dressing room will be one of his priorities as head coach.
