Inter Miami's marquee players Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez are sidelined from the 2024 MLS All-Star game because of injuries. Both stars had been elected to participate in the event, but a statement from Major League Soccer confirmed their unavailability for the game slated for Wednesday at Lower.com Field.
Messi's injury traces back to the Copa America final against Colombia. Initially expected to recover in time for the All-Star event, Messi was substituted in the 66th minute of the match due to an aggravated injury, leaving the pitch in tears. Despite his efforts to play through the pain, his condition worsened in the second half after another tackle.
Meanwhile, Suarez has been battling knee discomfort, an issue that flared up despite his commendable performance in Inter Miami's recent win over Chicago Fire. Messi has been a key player for Inter Miami this season, recording 12 goals and 13 assists, the fastest ever to achieve 25 goal contributions in an MLS season.
