Former U.S. Open champion Webb Simpson will serve as a vice captain alongside Keegan Bradley on the U.S. Ryder Cup team. They aim to reclaim the trophy from Europe next year at Bethpage Black, New York, the PGA of America announced on Tuesday.
The 38-year-old Simpson, a seven-time PGA Tour winner, played in three losing Ryder Cup teams in 2012, 2014, and 2018. Earlier announced as captain two weeks ago, Bradley expressed admiration for Simpson's experience and leadership. 'Webb is a respected competitor and friend. His experience will be invaluable as we prepare for Bethpage Black next September,' Bradley stated in a news release.
Simpson, who played in three Ryder Cups, compiling a 4-4-1 career record, expressed his enthusiasm for the role. 'I have no doubt that Keegan will be a fantastic leader. I am excited to work towards reclaiming the Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black,' said the Charlotte native. Additional vice captains will be announced later.
