Equestrian Scandal: Charlotte Dujardin Suspended Amid Horse Abuse Allegations

British Olympian Charlotte Dujardin has been suspended from the Paris Games after video footage revealed her whipping a horse's legs multiple times. This incident has ignited a broader debate about equestrian sports and horse welfare, especially just before the Olympics.

The International Equestrian Federation (FEI) shocked the equestrian world upon suspending Dujardin, a six-time Olympic medallist and one of Britain's most decorated female Olympians. "What is shown in this video is completely unacceptable at any time in a horse's training," said FEI Veterinarian Director Goran Akerstrom.

Efforts to improve horse welfare have intensified since the Tokyo Olympics, which damaged the sport's image. Animal rights organization PETA has renewed calls to ban equestrian events from the Olympics amid ongoing investigations. Meanwhile, the FEI has introduced numerous measures to ensure horse safety during competitions.
