Riyan Parag's exceptional bowling saw him take three wickets for just five runs, supported by Axar Patel and Arshdeep Singh who claimed two wickets each. On the batting front, Pathum Nissanka top-scored for Sri Lanka with 79 runs off 48 balls, while Kusal Mendis added a crucial 45.

India's innings featured a strong performance by new captain Suryakumar Yadav, who scored 58 off 26 balls. Openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill contributed 74 runs in the first six overs, with Jaiswal making 40 and Gill 34. Rishabh Pant narrowly missed a half-century, scoring 49 in 33 balls. Sri Lankan pacer Matheesha Pathirana was the standout bowler for the hosts, with figures of 4/40 despite several dropped catches. This match marked the beginning of Gautam Gambhir's tenure as India's head coach.
