The Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Mohsin Naqvi is considering appointing former captain Waqar Younis as the director of cricket affairs. Younis, who has previously served as Pakistan's head and bowling coach, is a strong candidate for the position.

Waqar Younis Likely to Be Appointed PCB's Director of Cricket Affairs

The chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Mohsin Naqvi, is contemplating appointing former captain Waqar Younis as the director of cricket affairs.

A well-placed source within the board informed PTI that Naqvi is inspired by other national boards and prefers a former player to oversee all cricket-related matters.

"Waqar Younis is a top candidate to take full responsibility for men's cricket, including liaising with foreign head coaches, national selectors, and domestic cricket departments," the source said.

The source explained that the PCB chief aims to delegate full power to Younis to manage men's cricket affairs, while other former players might handle certain issues. "Naqvi doesn't want to centralize all powers; he wants to decentralize, particularly concerning cricket issues. Even future international cricket schedules could be managed by the director of cricket," he added.

At present, Naqvi is focused on preparing to host the Champions Trophy and related administrative decisions in the board.

"As the federal interior minister, Naqvi believes it's only fair for specialists, not just administrators, to handle cricket matters," the source noted.

The director of cricket would have the authority to appoint other former players for assistance. At 52, Younis, currently residing in Australia with his family, has previously served as Pakistan's head coach and bowling coach in separate terms, and remains available for the national side.
