Donna Vekic Triumphs Over Adversity to Clinch Olympic Silver Medal

Against all odds, Croatia's Donna Vekic clinched the silver medal in women's singles tennis at the Olympics. Her journey was fraught with misadventures, including constant pain, a delayed flight, and illness. Yet, she triumphed to reach the final.

Ranked 21st, Vekic had a notable run to the Wimbledon semi-finals but lost 6-2 6-3 to China's Zheng Qinwen in a nerve-wracking final. Vekic had contemplated quitting tennis earlier this year due to knee surgery and her experience at the French Open.

'After Wimbledon, I was in so much pain I doubted I could compete in the Olympics,' said Vekic. Her troubles included a canceled flight and illness upon arrival, yet she persevered and secured a medal, driven by her desire to represent her country.
