In a surprising turn of events, India’s ODI cricket captain Rohit Sharma has attributed Sri Lanka's historic series win in Colombo to the hosts' superior performance, quashing any notions of complacency amongst his team. Sharma lauded Sri Lanka for their skillful play, highlighting that India was the favorite on paper after a dominant T20I series sweep.

The transition to the ODI format saw a drastic shift in dynamics, with Sri Lanka’s spinners becoming a formidable force on home ground. Their consistent performance posed significant challenges for the Indian batsmen throughout the three-match series. Sri Lanka narrowly missed victory in the first ODI, outplayed India in the second, and dominated the third.

Sharma, during the post-match presentation, acknowledged Sri Lanka's excellence and stressed the need for India to rethink its strategies. He agreed with teammate Washington Sundar's support for the team’s batting against spin but noted the necessity to revisit game plans. Despite identifying some positive aspects, Sharma emphasized the importance of addressing weaknesses, especially in tough conditions like Colombo. 'A series loss is not the end of the world,' Sharma concluded, urging for reflection and improvement. Sri Lanka's standout performances, particularly from Avishka Fernando and Kusal Mendis, led to a convincing win by 110 runs in the third ODI.
