Aman Sehrawat's Olympic Dream Falls Short

Young Indian wrestler Aman Sehrawat faced a defeat at the Olympics, losing to Japan's Rei Higuchi in the 57kg freestyle semifinal. Despite earlier victories, he could not overcome the technical superiority of Higuchi. Aman will now contest for the bronze. Additionally, compatriot Anshu Malik also faced setbacks in her matches.

Young Indian grappler Aman Sehrawat's quest for Olympic gold faced a setback as he lost to Japanese top-seed Rei Higuchi in the 57kg freestyle semifinal on Thursday. The 21-year-old will now compete for the bronze medal against Puerto Rico's Darian Toi Cruz on Friday.

Aman's Olympic journey had started on a high note, defeating celebrated opponents, but was abruptly halted by Higuchi, the 2016 Rio Olympics silver medalist. The Japanese wrestler displayed superior skills, taking a decisive 10-0 victory in just over two minutes.

Earlier, Aman had ignited hopes by dismantling former world champion Zelimkhan Abakarov from Albania to secure a semifinal spot. However, the young wrestler's spirited performances weren't enough to propel him to the final.

In another bout, female wrestler Anshu Malik lost 2-7 to USA's Helen Louise Maroulis in the 57kg pre-quarterfinals, missing her chance at a repechage round after Maroulis' loss in the semifinals.
