In a significant decision, the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has nominated hockey goalkeeper PR Sreejesh alongside pistol shooter Manu Bhaker as the joint flagbearers for the Closing Ceremony of the ongoing Paris Olympics 2024.

IOA President PT Usha emphasized that Sreejesh was a popular and emotional choice, with support from the IOA leadership, including Chef de Mission Gagan Narang and the entire Indian contingent. "Sreejesh has admirably served Indian hockey and sport for over two decades," said Usha.

India clinched a bronze medal in hockey with PR Sreejesh's key saves, defeating Spain 2-1. Javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra, who won his second Olympic silver, praised Sreejesh's selection as flagbearer. Manu Bhaker made history by becoming the first Indian woman shooter to win Olympic medals, securing two bronze medals in air pistol events, marking a momentous achievement for India at the Paris Olympics 2024.
