Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday congratulated Neeraj Chopra, the Indian javelin sensation, for clinching his second Olympic medal even while battling an injury. Modi also praised Chopra's mother, Saroj Devi, for her gracious remarks about Pakistani competitor Arshad Nadeem, highlighting the spirit of a sports family.

Chopra's mother expressed happiness for Nadeem, acknowledging his record-breaking performance in Paris and noting, 'he is also like her child.' Modi commended this sporting spirit during a phone call with the athlete and encouraged Chopra not to dwell on missing the gold medal, emphasizing that very few athletes have won two Olympic medals. 'You are gold yourself,' Modi said.

Despite his injury, Chopra expressed contentment with winning the silver medal amid tough competition. Modi praised Chopra's achievement and the inspiration it provides to the younger generation, urging a detailed discussion on how best to manage the athlete’s injury going forward.

Chopra assured the Prime Minister of his continued commitment to hard work and excellence in future sporting events. The Paris Games saw Chopra achieve a season’s best throw of 89.45m, while Nadeem set a new record with 92.97m, making Chopra the first Indian in track and field to win back-to-back individual Olympic medals.
