Indian cricket star Sanju Samson has addressed the perceived lack of opportunities within the national team, sharing that he 'believes in a higher purpose'. Samson, critical to India's ICC T20 World Cup victory in the West Indies and USA, has largely been utilized as a back-up wicketkeeper-batter in white-ball formats. Notably, he did not participate in any matches during the tournament.

Since his 2014 debut, Samson has played only 16 ODIs for India, accumulating 510 runs at an impressive 56.66 average, including a century and three fifties. In T20Is, he has appeared in 30 matches, amassing 444 runs with an average of 19.30 and two half-centuries. His performances in the Indian Premier League (IPL) have garnered him a loyal fanbase, frequently voicing their dissatisfaction over his limited national appearances amidst established players like Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, and Shreyas Iyer.

At a Friday press event for the Kerala Cricket League, Samson stated his readiness to play whenever selected, expressing happiness for the team's success irrespective of his playing time. 'I believe in a higher purpose and remain positive, focusing on what I can control and giving my best efforts,' he remarked. Despite recent underwhelming performances against Sri Lanka, Samson has been named the tournament icon for the Kerala Cricket League 2024. The tournament will feature six teams from September 2 to 18 in Thiruvananthapuram, following a player auction that saw 168 registrations, with MS Akhil becoming the top buy at INR 7.4 lakh by the Trivandrum Royals.
