Breaking the Olympic record with a time of 2:22:55, Hassan overcame Ethiopia's Tigst Assefa in the final meters after a dramatic elbow trade and strategic bend maneuver.

With this victory, Hassan now boasts six Olympic medals, having previously won gold in the 5,000 and 10,000 meters along with a third-place finish in the 1,500 meters.
