Romanian gymnast Ana Barbosu was awarded her Olympic bronze medal during a ceremony in Bucharest on Friday, closing a chapter on a controversial episode. The medal was initially awarded to U.S. gymnast Jordan Chiles but was later revoked.
Barbosu received the medal after the Court of Arbitration for Sport ruled that the U.S. team's appeal during the Aug. 5 floor exercise final in Paris was filed four seconds late. Chiles had originally been awarded the bronze following the appeal.
Barbosu thanked her federation and legal team for their support and expressed hopes of earning more medals for Romania. Despite the controversy, she sent positive thoughts to the U.S. gymnasts affected by the ruling.
