Australian skipper Alyssa Healy expressed concerns over hosting the ICC T20 World Cup in Bangladesh, as the nation grappled with violence, resulting in several deaths and a government collapse. The tournament is slated for October 3-20, but the ICC is contemplating alternative venues, with the UAE being a frontrunner. The BCCI recently declined to host the event in India, though options like Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe remain on the table.
Healy, quoted by ESPNCricinfo, stated, "It's hard to see a cricket tournament happening and drawing resources from a struggling country. They need all the help they can get." She emphasized the difficulty of playing there during such times and suggested leaving the decision to the ICC.
Fellow all-rounder Sophie Molineux assured that players are in constant communication with Cricket Australia, which is closely coordinating with the ICC. Australia will announce its squad next Monday, aiming for another title after defeating South Africa in the last final by 19 runs. Bangladesh recently faced severe unrest, especially targeting minorities, following Sheikh Hasina's forced resignation. Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus now leads the interim government.
