Indian javelin thrower Sumit Antil, who clinched gold at the Tokyo Paralympics, is gearing up to defend his title in the Men's F64 category at the Paris Paralympic Games. Sumit, who has consistently smashed world records, aims to surpass his latest record throw of 73.29 meters and eventually achieve an 80m throw.
The 26-year-old athlete will also serve as India's flag-bearer at the Paris event, scheduled from August 28 to September 8, 2024. He expresses no pressure so far, attributing his confidence to rigorous practice sessions at the Sports Authority of India's Sonipat center. Sumit has been part of the Target Olympics Podium Scheme (TOPS) since 2019 and credits it for providing essential resources, including prosthetic legs from abroad.
Notably, Sumit emphasizes his satisfaction with Neeraj Chopra's performance at the Olympics and highlights the importance of peak performance on competition day. As India's contingent heads to Paris, consisting of 84 athletes across 12 disciplines, Sumit stands poised to contribute another stellar performance.
