The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Tuesday confirmed that the Women's T20 World Cup 2024 has been relocated from Bangladesh to the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The ninth edition of the highly-anticipated tournament will now take place in the UAE while the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) retains hosting duties in name.

Scheduled to run from October 3 to 20, the games will be held across two venues, Dubai and Sharjah. ICC Chief Executive Geoff Allardice expressed regret over the shift, affirming that the BCB would have hosted a memorable event had it been feasible.

'It is a shame not to be hosting the Women's T20 World Cup in Bangladesh as we know the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) would have staged a memorable event,' Allardice noted, adding that future ICC events in Bangladesh are still on the agenda.

Allardice thanked BCB for its efforts in exploring all avenues to host the event, citing travel advisories from participating teams' governments as the key reason for the move. He also extended gratitude to the Emirates Cricket Board for stepping up to host the tournament.

The UAE, which has become a significant cricket hub in recent years, previously co-hosted the ICC Men's T20 World Cup in 2021 and several qualifier tournaments.
