Pakistan's skipper Shan Masood has expressed high praise for emerging talent Saim Ayub, indicating plans to give the young cricketer a 'fair chance' in the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh. The two-match series is scheduled to start on August 21 at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, marking the first assignment for newly appointed Test coach Jason Gillespie.
In a pre-match press conference, Masood highlighted the depth and quality of Pakistan's opening batting lineup. 'Saim is in good touch,' he said, emphasizing his intention to support the players. Masood noted that the team has an extended squad beyond the 17 primary players, with as many as 25 players regularly considered. This includes Muhammad Hurraira, who has impressed in domestic cricket, and Imam-ul-Haq, who is being rested for this series.
Saim made his Test debut in 2024 against Australia, scoring 33 runs in his first match. He will open alongside Abdullah Shafique in the first Test against Bangladesh. The Pakistan Cricket Board announced the playing XI for the opening match, featuring top pacers Shaheen Shah Afridi, Naseem Shah, Khurram Shahzad, and Mohammad Ali among others. (ANI)
