Indian Cricket Team Aims to Regain Mastery Over Spin
Assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate acknowledges that the Indian batsmen's focus on succeeding overseas has weakened their spin-playing ability. His objective is to help them regain this strength ahead of crucial home matches and upcoming tournaments. The team is preparing for the last leg of several important competitions including the WTC final and Champions Trophy.

In a candid admission, assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate has stated that the Indian batsmen's eagerness to excel in overseas conditions has diminished their proficiency against spin bowling. His immediate task: to rebuild this vital skill as the team prepares for a crucial season featuring five home Tests.
Traditionally strong against spin, India recently lost 27 wickets to Sri Lankan spinners in a three-match ODI series, resulting in a 0-2 defeat—their first bilateral ODI series loss to Sri Lanka in 27 years. Doeschate told Talksport Cricket that India's focus on performing well in Australia and England has relegated their once-formidable spin-playing ability.
India is set to face Bangladesh and New Zealand in five home Test matches, teams with capable spinners. Doeschate, who acts alongside head coach Gautam Gambhir, emphasized that improving spin play is more about mental rather than technical shifts. The Dutchman also highlighted major upcoming goals: winning the Champions Trophy next year and securing a spot in the World Test Championship final. India, currently leading the WTC table, has 10 Tests left to fortify this position.
