In a thrilling opener of the Ultimate Table Tennis (UTT) 2024, Dabang Delhi TTC captain Sathiyan Gnanasekaran delivered a spectacular performance at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium, leading his team to a 9-6 victory over Athlead Goa Challengers. Facing off against Olympian Mihai Bobocica, Sathiyan overcame an initial setback with a fierce comeback to win the match.
The tie's first women's singles saw Dabang Delhi TTC's Orawan Paranang make history by becoming the first paddler to defeat Yangzi Liu in UTT. Paranang clinched an 11-7 win in Game 1 and secured victory on a Golden Point in Game 2. Her momentum continued in mixed doubles alongside Sathiyan, defeating Liu and Harmeet Desai two games to one.
Athlead Goa Challengers' captain Harmeet Desai managed to secure a win against Andreas Levenko in the second men's singles, bouncing back after an initial game loss. Meanwhile, Diya Chitale extended her winning streak to two consecutive matches with a decisive victory over Yashaswini Ghorpade, clinching Dabang Delhi TTC's overall win. Sathiyan and Paranang were awarded Indian and Foreign Player of the Tie honors for their outstanding contributions.
