The Formula One safety car crashed during testing at Monza on Thursday. Despite the incident, the FIA confirmed that the weekend's Italian Grand Prix will not be affected.
The crash occurred during standard pre-race preparations. Safety car driver Bernd Maylander was touring the circuit when the Aston Martin spun off the track at high speed on the Parabolica corner and hit the tyre barrier. An FIA statement reported that Aston Martin is investigating the cause but confirmed both the driver and passenger are fine.
Fortunately, an additional Safety Car is at the circuit, ensuring the event will continue as planned. The F1 medical car, which was also completing test runs, stopped to collect Maylander and his passenger, returning them to the pits. Drivers will test the newly resurfaced track in Friday's practice sessions ahead of Sunday's race.
