Springboks Aim for Historic Fourth Victory Over New Zealand
South Africa's Springboks, fresh from their Rugby World Cup triumph, seek a fourth consecutive victory over New Zealand. They credit their success to rigorous training and strategies under pressure. Despite challenges, they showcase resilience and determination. Preparations include anticipating tough scenarios and maintaining focus, essential for Saturday's game in Cape Town.
South Africa's nerve-racking run through the knockout stages of last year's Rugby World Cup has given them the confidence to believe no obstacle is insurmountable as they aim for a fourth consecutive victory over their old rivals, New Zealand, in Cape Town this Saturday.
The Springboks secured each of their three knockout victories in Paris by a single point, including the final against New Zealand, by turning around late deficits against both France and England. Recently, they overcame a 10-point deficit with 12 minutes to go to secure a win over the All Blacks in one of two Rugby Championship home tests at Ellis Park, a situation for which they actively train.
"The coaches prepare us for such scenarios throughout the week, putting us in situations where we might be a man down or several points behind," wing Cheslin Kolbe said. "In the past, we wouldn't have been able to come back from 10 points behind against New Zealand and win. It shows the character and belief of each player in the group."
The Springboks recently experienced their own medicine when they missed out on securing a home test series against Ireland in July, losing to a last-second drop-goal in the second fixture in Durban to draw the series 1-1.
Kolbe acknowledges the challenge his team faces against their determined visitors. "They are incredibly skilled all over the field," he remarked. "They've often caught us off guard before, especially at Ellis Park. But we have learned to stay in the game and pull through in the end. We train hard and stay focused; hopefully, it will pay off on Saturday."
