Delhi HC Seeks AITA's Stand on Controversial Election

The Delhi High Court requested the All India Tennis Association (AITA) to respond to allegations of violating the Sports Code during its upcoming election. Despite not halting the election, the court mandated that the results remain unpublished pending the outcome of the petition by former tennis players Somdev Devvarman and Purav Raja.

The Delhi High Court probed the All India Tennis Association (AITA) over allegations of Sports Code violations in its imminent election. Former tennis players Somdev Devvarman and Purav Raja filed the petition against holding the elections later this month.

Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav issued notices to AITA and the Centre, stipulating that the election outcomes be withheld until the plea is resolved. Though refusing to halt the election, the judge emphasized that any elected officials found in breach of the Sports Code would be restrained from functioning.

Senior advocate Rahul Mehra accused AITA of conducting a 'clandestine' election, arguing that the process lacks transparency. He urged the court to impose a stay, claiming AITA's actions defy previous court rulings and the Sports Code itself. The court will next hear the matter on October 14.
