In a crucial update for Indian cricket, premier middle-order batter Sarfaraz Khan, wicket-keeper Dhruv Jurel, and pacer Yash Dayal are in a state of uncertain selection. They are expected to be released from the Indian team for the Irani Cup should they not feature in the playing XI for the second Test against Bangladesh in Kanpur starting September 27.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday announced the Rest of India squad, captained by Ruturaj Gaikwad, set to challenge reigning Ranji Trophy champions Mumbai in Lucknow from October 1-5. The statement confirmed that Jurel and Dayal's inclusion in the squad depends on their non-participation in the Kanpur Test.
Additionally, prolific run-getter Sarfaraz Khan, who represents Mumbai in domestic cricket, will also join the Mumbai team if not selected for the second Test. The Irani Cup match marks the return of Mumbai all-rounder Shardul Thakur to first-class cricket post-surgery. Top players like Shreyas Iyer, Musheer Khan, Shams Mulani, and Tanush Kotian will also feature in the match.
