The Chicago Bulls have given head coach Jim Boylen a new deal that increases his pay and keeps him under contract through the 2019-20 season, according to multiple reports Saturday. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Boylen was previously set to make just over $800,000 this season and next on his associate head coach salary. He now is expected to remain the team's head coach through at least next season with a bump in salary.
Boylen, 53, took over for fired coach Fred Hoiberg on Dec. 3. The team owes Hoiberg the rest of his $5 million salary for this season and $5 million next year. The Bulls have gone 5-18 under Boylen, bringing their season record to 10-32. Reports swirled just a week into his tenure that the players were on the verge of a revolt, but a meeting with Boylen appeared to soothe things. Boylen spent four years as an associate head coach in Chicago before taking over for Hoiberg.
