The reintroduction of the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025, scheduled in Pakistan, will offer the victorious eight-team tournament champions a grand prize of USD 2.24 million along with the coveted trophy set to be awarded on March 9. The competition marks a return since 2017 and reflects a significant increase in the total prize pot, now USD 6.9 million, as stated in an ICC press release.
Each group match win can generate over USD 34,000 for teams, with varying payouts based on tournament standings: teams ranked fifth or sixth will claim USD 350,000 each, while those in seventh and eighth positions receive USD 140,000. All participating teams are guaranteed USD 125,000 just for competing in this significant two-week event, which will see matches played in Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi.
ICC Chair Jay Shah emphasized the importance of the tournament, highlighting its role in promoting cricket. "The substantial prize pot underscores the ICC's ongoing investment in the sport and maintains the global prestige of our events," Shah remarked, illustrating how financial incentives enhance both competition and the sport's long-term future. The format splits eight teams into two groups, with the top two per group advancing to semi-finals. Future tournaments include a Women's Champions Trophy in 2027, expanding to a T20 format.
