In a historic first for Chennai, the 23rd National Para Athletics Championship has commenced at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. Held from February 17 to 20, the championship enjoys robust support from the Tamil Nadu Government, guided by Deputy Chief Minister and Sports Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin.

Attracting 1,476 para-athletes from across India, the event features 155 competitions across 30 teams, making it one of the largest ever in the country. Spearheaded by Devendra Jhajharia of the Paralympic Committee of India and the Tamil Nadu Paralympic Sports Association (TNPSA) led by Chandrasekar Rajan, the championship unfolds smoothly with key contributions from officials like Satya Prakash Sangwan and Jayawant Gundu Hamanawar.

Prominent athletes like Sumit Antil in Javelin, Manoj Sabapathy in Wheelchair Racing, and others vie for top honors. The championship underscores the growing prominence and inclusivity of para-sports in India, as stated by TNPSA President Chandrasekar Rajan, emphasizing governmental support in its success.
