The Supreme Court intervened on Tuesday, stopping the Karnataka Police from acting against renowned badminton player Lakshya Sen, his family, and his coach. This came amid allegations of forgery related to birth certificates, as part of a case brought forward by complainant M G Nagaraj.
Justices Sudhanshu Dhulia and K Vinod Chandran led the bench that issued a notice to the Karnataka government and Nagaraj, urging further investigation into claims that Sen and his brother's birth documents were doctored to qualify for age-restricted tournaments.
Despite a lower court previously dismissing challenges from Sen's team against the inquiry, accusations remain that Nagaraj's motives are personal, reportedly stemming from a non-selection incident involving his daughter at the Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy.
