The Delhi High Court on Tuesday opened the door for celebrated wrestlers, including Bajrang Punia and Vinesh Phogat, to challenge the government's revocation of the Wrestling Federation of India's (WFI) suspension. This move follows the government's March 10 decision to reinstate WFI's status as a national sports federation after revoking its suspension due to governance issues.

A bench led by Chief Justice D K Upadhyaya has requested a single judge to expedite hearings on the wrestlers' plea against the controversial 2023 WFI election. The court observed that as the Centre has lifted the suspension, the affair now rests with the wrestling community to challenge the government's decision as needed.

The sports ministry's decision to revoke the WFI's suspension was described as being in the best interest of the sport and athletes. The ministry mandated that the WFI adhere to new governance measures, including ensuring fair elections and distancing itself from previously suspended or terminated officials.
