In a significant development, England batter Harry Brook has been handed a two-season ban from the Indian Premier League (IPL) after his eleventh-hour decision to opt-out of the 2025 edition. This follows a similar withdrawal in the previous season due to personal reasons.
Brook rendered an "unreserved" apology to his franchise, the Delhi Capitals, and its ardent supporters for his back-to-back absences. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) stood firm on its rules, indicating that any non-injured overseas player who withdraws after being picked at the auction would face a two-year ban.
Brook cited the importance of focusing on England cricket as his reason for missing the IPL. He expressed the need to prioritize his national team's upcoming engagements, including a crucial home Test series against India and the eminent Ashes series.
