India's batting lineup delivered impressive performances, with five players scoring centuries: Yashashvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant (twice), and KL Rahul. Despite this, they couldn’t stave off defeat, marking the first instance in Test cricket history of such an outcome.
The match saw a total of 1673 runs scored, setting a new high for matches between these two teams. On the final day, England's batsmen, led by Ben Duckett's 149, executed a near-perfect chase, closing the match at 373/5 in 82 overs and taking a 1-0 lead in the series.
