In a strategic move, the Pakistan Cricket Board has appointed Shaheen Shah Afridi as the new captain of the One Day International team, replacing Muhammad Rizwan. The decision comes ahead of the ODI series against South Africa scheduled in Faisalabad from November 4-8.

Announced in a meeting in Islamabad, the decision included insights from national selectors, advisory board members, and the team's head coach Mike Hesson. Afridi, previously named as T20 captain, aims to utilize his experience from 66 ODIs and 92 T20 matches to lead the team.

Mike Hesson, keen on shaping the future leadership, advocated for this transition alongside Salman Ali Agha. Shaheen's appointment follows inconsistent leadership changes in recent years. Rizwan, despite earlier ODI successes, faced removal amidst a series of poor results.
