Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar has confirmed that the renowned Chinnaswamy Stadium will continue to host IPL matches. This announcement comes in response to uncertainties after a recent stampede incident during the IPL 2025 celebration at the stadium.
Addressing the media post-vote in the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) presidential elections, Shivakumar revealed plans for a new, larger stadium. Emphasizing his passion for cricket, he assured that stringent measures would prevent any repeat of the unfortunate incident while preserving the stadium's esteemed status in Bengaluru.
Shivakumar also stated that the KSCA would manage the stadium in compliance with the law, focusing on effective crowd control. He reiterated that IPL matches would not be relocated, underlining Bengaluru's pride in hosting them. Additionally, he promised opportunities for women's matches in the future.
