Rangers add OF Pence on minor league deal
Hunter Pence, a three-time All-Star who won the World Series twice with the San Francisco Giants, signed a minor league deal with the Texas Rangers, the team announced Thursday. The deal also includes an invite to major league camp at spring training in Surprise, Ariz.
Pence, 35, is a lifetime .280 hitter over 12 seasons with 224 home runs and 877 RBIs, but he batted just .226 with four home runs and 24 RBIs in 97 games with the Giants last season. Pence will be coming off an eight-game stint for Toros in the Dominican Winter League, where he batted .276 in 29 at-bats with a home run.
Joining Pence with an invite to major league camp off a minor league deal will be third baseman Matt Davidson, who hit 46 home runs over the past two seasons for the Chicago White Sox. Davidson, who agreed to his minor league deal last week, will also try to pitch for the Rangers. --Field Level Media
