In a spirited move ahead of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2025, Sri Lanka has announced their 15-member squad for an upcoming T20I series against India. Chamari Athapaththu will once again lead the team, supported by deputy Harshitha Samarawickrama, as they focus on building momentum for next year's global tournament in England.
The squad is bolstered by the addition of 17-year-old ambidextrous spinner Shashini Gimhani, making her return since August 2024. Also included is Nimesha Madushani, earning her maiden call-up, as per the ICC's official release. The series commences on December 21 in Visakhapatnam, with three matches hosted there before moving to Thiruvananthapuram for the final two clashes.
This tour marks a significant return for both teams, notably India, following their triumph at the 2025 ICC Women's ODI World Cup. The encounters will offer valuable match practice ahead of the T20 World Cup slated for June 12 in England. Historically, India has dominated the bilateral T20I contests, having won 20 of 26 encounters against Sri Lanka, with the latter's last Indian soil victory dating back to 2014 in Visakhapatnam.
