FIFA president Gianni Infantino criticized violent and disruptive actions during the Africa Cup of Nations final, condemning both players and coaching staff from Senegal. The game ended with Senegal winning 1-0 against Morocco. The Confederation of African Football is reviewing the situation for potential disciplinary action.
FIFA president Gianni Infantino has spoken out against the violent and disruptive behaviour displayed by Senegal players and coaching staff during the chaotic conclusion of the Africa Cup of Nations final. The match saw Senegal triumph narrowly with a 1-0 win over hosts Morocco, courtesy of a Pape Gueye goal in extra time.
Infantino emphasized that violence and walk-offs have no place in football, stating that players and officials must uphold the integrity of the game by respecting official decisions on the field. His remarks came in the wake of Senegal's controversial reaction to a late penalty decision, which escalated tensions and temporarily halted the match.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is currently reviewing footage from the game and has promised disciplinary proceedings to address the unacceptable behaviour observed. CAF condemned the actions and plans to take appropriate measures against those involved.
