Giants sign OF Parra to minor-league deal

The San Francisco Giants signed veteran outfielder Gerardo Parra to a minor-league contract on Tuesday, according to published reports. Parra, 31, has a .278 average with 79 homers and 474 RBIs in 10 big-league seasons.

Last season, Parra batted .284 with six homers and 53 RBIs in 142 games for the Colorado Rockies. Parra spent the past three campaigns with the Rockies. He played his first 5 1/2 seasons with the Arizona Diamondbacks (2009-14) and also played for the Milwaukee Brewers (2014-15) and Baltimore Orioles (2015) before joining Colorado in 2016.

The Giants also are in the hunt for free-agent outfielder Bryce Harper, and left-handed ace Madison Bumgarner voiced his opinion on Tuesday. "I think (Harper) would be a huge addition for us," Bumgarner told reporters. "He's obviously a superstar in the game, a young player. I think everybody in here would be pretty damn excited to have him."

San Francisco also claimed right-hander Jose Lopez off waivers from the Cincinnati Reds and designated left-hander Josh Osich for assignment. The 25-year-old Lopez was 5-13 with a 4.47 ERA in 26 starts at Triple-A Louisville last season.

The 30-year-old Osich had an 8.25 ERA in 12 relief appearances for the Giants last season. --Field Level Media
