In a match filled with tension and excitement, the Indian women's national team emerged victorious against Malawi, securing a 3-2 win and claiming third place in the FIFA Series 2026 held at Nyayo National Stadium, Nairobi. According to the All India Football Federation, goals from Astam Oraon, Aveka Singh, and Priyadharshini Selladurai were crucial in the Blue Tigresses' success.

The Indian team displayed an aggressive start, which bore fruit in the 18th minute when Astam Oraon capitalized on a defensive miscue by Malawi's goalkeeper. Although Malawi fought back to equalize twice, India's Aveka Singh and substitute Priyadharshini Selladurai ensured that India reclaimed and maintained their lead.

Despite the persistent threat posed by Malawi, Indian goalkeeper Shreya Hooda's vigilance and astute defense played a significant role in retaining the advantage. The decisive goal, orchestrated by a Nirmala Devi free-kick, was expertly finished by Selladurai, sealing the hard-fought victory. This victory comes after a 0-2 semi-final defeat to Kenya, setting Australia as Kenya's opponents in the final.
