Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has labelled the upcoming summer transfer window ahead of the next season as the "most important transfer window of all time" for the club, as he aims to take the club to the Premier League glory for the first time since 2013. Carrick, who led Manchester United to the UEFA Champions League spot after taking over in January, after Ruben Amorim was sacked mid-season. With one game left and the Premier League title having gone to Arsenal, Manchester United sits in third spot with 68 points. Ahead of the next season, he has signed a two-year deal with the club as coach.
Several senior players are expected to leave, with the Brazilian superstar Casemiro having already played his final match for the United. Carrick aims to reshape the club and close the gap with sides like Manchester City and Arsenal. "I think the beauty of the next transfer window for everybody, it is always the biggest thing in the world, and the most important transfer window of all time for every club I think," he said, as quoted by Goal.com on the club's official website.
"That is just the nature of how it's been created, to be honest. And I think, again, as a football club, you want to keep moving forward. We certainly do as a football club, want to keep moving forward. So, I think it is acknowledged we are at this stage and the dynamics and the balance of the direction we are at, where we have ended up getting to and finishing in the league." "And there is obviously work to do. I know it is quite obvious, there is certain players leaving, that there is a bit of work to do. It's not any more important, this one, than the last one, or it is what's ahead of us as a football club to try and make the most of," he concluded.
Casemiro's departure will leave a massive void in the changing room in terms of leadership, but Carrick feels that the youngsters have started to get mature on and off the pitch, as suggested by the recent performances which helped United secure the UCL spot. "I have seen development, a lot of development in different way. Some of it you see on the pitch, some of it is obvious it is there performance-wise or there is a technical part of it, and players are improving in that regard," he said.
"But I think I have said it before, again, sometimes it is the feeling comfortable in the best way of being here and knowing what it feels like to play here, having an element of success, having an element of a few challenges and you come through it and you understand what it takes to get through it," he added. "I think that as much as anything, and then you can grow, and your character and your personality comes out even more. I have seen that from some of the younger players and, actually, not just the younger players, you can see everyone that little bit more and growing when you're getting good results and good performances," he added.
On a concluding note, Carrick said that the "leadership is different from everyone". "Some show it a little bit more vocally, but you can definitely see each and every player grow when you are moving in the right direction, for sure, yeah," he signed off. (ANI)
