Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, a renowned Indian shooter, experienced disappointment at the ISSF World Cup after being disqualified from the men's 50m Rifle 3 Positions event due to an equipment issue. This unexpected setback occurred just before the medal round as technicians discovered a fault with his weapon.
Tomar, who has previously represented India at the Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 Olympics, had shown strong form, finishing fifth in the qualification round with a score of 592. However, despite using the same weapon that had previously passed checks, the technical issue was identified afterward, leading to the disqualification and a failed appeal by the Indian contingent.
The disqualification has repercussions beyond the World Cup, as it could affect Tomar's chances for the Asian Games, potentially necessitating additional selection trials. Known for his strong performances, including a silver medal at the ISSF World Championships in Cairo and defending his title in the Asian Championship, Tomar remains a key figure in India's shooting sports.
