Indian badminton duo Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty clinched their maiden Singapore Open championship after defeating Indonesia's Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Shohibul Fikri in the BWF Super 750 final on Sunday.
This triumph not only marked their first victory at the Singapore Open but also ended a two-year title drought, during which they fell short in four finals. Reaching the Singapore final with a disadvantage against the Indonesians, having lost to them at the Malaysia Open quarterfinals earlier this year, Satwik and Chirag displayed determination to overturn the odds.
Despite dropping the first game 18-21, the Indian pair intensified their play to take the next two games 21-17, 21-16, securing their ninth career World Tour crown. Their victory is particularly notable as they became the first Indian team to win the doubles title at this event.
Their path to triumph was highlighted by a semifinal win over the world champions from South Korea, and the final itself was a testament to their resilience and skill, culminating in an emotional on-court celebration after the match point.
