Andoni Iraola: Leading Liverpool into a New Era
Andoni Iraola, former Bournemouth manager, has been appointed as Liverpool's head coach for the 2026-27 season following Arne Slot's exit. Iraola brings a wealth of experience from his tenures at La Liga and Premier League clubs, looking to build on his impressive European qualification feats.
Andoni Iraola has been announced as Liverpool's new head coach, stepping in after Arne Slot's departure. The 43-year-old Spaniard will take charge at Anfield following three successful seasons with AFC Bournemouth that saw him lead the team to European qualification for the first time in their history, with a notable sixth-place Premier League finish.
In an interview with Liverpoolfc.com, Iraola expressed his enthusiasm: "Really excited, really excited. Because obviously you know about Liverpool, you know that it's a big club, a massive club, one of the biggest in the world." He emphasized the allure of coaching top-tier players and the opportunity to compete for titles, describing Liverpool as a "special club" that needs no embellishment.
Iraola's career trajectory has been upward since his managerial debut with AEK Larnaca, Cyprus, in 2018, where he led them to a Super Cup victory. His success continued at Rayo Vallecano, achieving a promotion to La Liga, and at Bournemouth, where a strong unbeaten run resulted in a sixth-place finish, earning European competition entry. As he steps into his role at Liverpool, expectations are high for him to steer the Reds towards further achievements.
