The 2026 FIFA World Cup is set to become a landmark event, highlighting a stark generational divide among its participants. For the first time in the tournament's history, there will be a gap of over 25 years between the youngest and oldest players competing in the final squads of the 48 teams.

According to FIFA, Mexican midfielder Gilberto Mora, just 17 years old, will be the youngest player in the tournament. He will be 17 years and 240 days old when the World Cup kicks off on June 11 across North America. Meanwhile, Scottish goalkeeper Craig Gordon, at 43 years and 162 days, will represent the older athletes on the field.

This blend of emerging talent and seasoned experience will define the World Cup's newest format. Notable veteran figures like Portugal's Cristiano Ronaldo and Croatia's Luka Modric will also feature, leading their teams with resilience and expertise. The tournament highlights the diverse dynamics of international football as it introduces an expanded format with 48 teams.
