Iglesias inks deal with Cincinnati Reds

Jose Iglesias will join the Cincinnati Reds at their big-league camp after signing a minor league deal with the team. The deal, announced on Saturday, will give him a chance to make the big-league roster.

Reds manager David Bell envisions Iglesias filling in at multiple positions. "He provides great depth. He's been a shortstop, he's played second base, third base," Bell said. "He's been a successful major league player on really good teams. He brings the experience of winning. If he makes the team, he will make us a deeper, better team."

Jose Peraza, the Reds' starting shortstop, will remain in the role, according to Bell. Iglesias, 29, played in 125 games for the Detroit Tigers last season, hitting .269 with five home runs and 48 RBIs. He's a career .270 hitter with 21 home runs and 188 RBIs in 656 total games played with the Tigers and Boston Red Sox.
