Manager Bud Black and the Colorado Rockies agreed to a three-year contract extension. The team announced the news Monday with Black, a finalist for National League Manager of the Year in 2017 and 2018, preparing to begin his third season on the Rockies' bench.
"It's a well-earned and exciting extension," Colorado general manager Jeff Bridich said. "The team has done well, and even more than that, Buddy has seamlessly become part of our leadership fabric. Our organization as a whole is better for it." Black's contract now expires after the 2022 season.
"I feel like where we are as a team -- and where we can get to -- ultimately is what this is all about," Black said, according to the Denver Post. "I'm grateful for the trust that Jeff places in me to do this job." In two seasons with Colorado, Black has a record of 178-147, leading the Rockies to the playoffs in back-to-back seasons.
Black, 61, has 827 wins in 11 seasons as a manager in the major leagues. He spent the first nine years of his managerial career (2007-15) in San Diego.
